Ludo house rules: the versions people play and how to choose
3 November 2026 · Jakoz Gaming
Ask five families how they play Ludo and you'll hear five different rules. That's why Jakoz lets the host of a private room choose the house rules before the game starts.
Bringing a token out: 6 only, or 6 and 1?
The classic rule needs a 6. Many homes also allow a 1, which makes games faster and less frustrating at the start.
Safe star squares: on or off?
With safe squares on, tokens on the stars can't be captured. Turn them off for a more aggressive game where only the start squares are safe.
Three 6s in a row
In the common rule, rolling three 6s in a row ends your turn. Some families let you keep rolling.
Capture before going home
A popular Gulf variation: you must capture at least one opponent token before any of yours may enter the home column. It makes the end of the game much more tense.
How strong are the computers?
Empty seats can be filled with easy, medium or hard computer players.
How to set them on Jakoz
- Open Ludo and tap Play with friends.
- In the room, the host ticks the house rules.
- Everyone sees the rules before the game starts.
Quick matches always use the classic rules, so games with strangers stay fair. Make a Ludo room now or read the Ludo guide.
